INTERNAL APPLICANTS - PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS POSITION IS PART TIME GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB The part-time Educational Instructor shall deliver the educational components required by the M.O.S.T Agreement. Adequately and competently perform the duties, obligations, and services, as set forth in the Scope of Services and provide and perform such services to Children's Services Council's (CSC) satisfaction. Provide children with a safe and positive academic environment that is conducive for learning. Incorporate best practices; plan and implement curriculum that enhances academic achievement, supports social and intellectual development among children. Prepare lesson plans using approved curriculum. Responsible for teaching academic activities including math, reading, individualized tutoring, homework assistance, remediation, and/or educational enrichment activities. The program will be offered year-round following the Broward County School Board Schedule. During the school year, reinforce the learning experiences that children receive at school. During the summer months, help children maintain and improve their reading and academic levels while they are in recess from their regular school day. Position Duties and Responsibilities ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS * Maintains job related certifications in accordance with Broward County Child Care Licensing Standards to work in a childcare facility, asapplicable. * Maintainsprogramcredentialstoincludeaccreditation,grants,andanyothercertificationsspecific toprogram. * Maintains high moral standards; be well disposed around children. * Prepares curriculum that is informative and exciting and complies with program standards and regulations. Educational activities shall be creative, fun, and designed to foster a love oflearning. * Provides careandsupportandmaintainapositiveandcreativepersonalitytohelpchildrenlearnand have fun throughout theday. * Responsible for the health, safety, and personal welfare of assignedchildren. * Keeps the center/program supervisor informed of important information regarding the safety of children. * Assists in responsibilities in other duties in the event other personnel are notavailable. * Interacts with parents and provide information regarding their children'sprogress. * Attends and participates in staff meetings, center events and training as required. * Supervisesassignedserviceareas;ensuresthatsafetyprecautionsareobserved;overseestheuseof equipmentandmaterials.Caresforandmaintainsassignedequipment,teachingaidsandmaterials. * Provides direction and mentors subordinates andvolunteers. * Performs classroom teaching duties. Reading, math, and science shall be included as an integral component, using approved curriculum. Individualized tutoring, homework assistance, remediation, and/or academic enrichment activities must be provided. Components related to social skills building shall be interwoven throughout the overall program design but shall follow the approved curriculum. Social skills activities shall be presented interactively, creatively and in a way that will promote positive self-esteem, pro-social peer associations, and good citizenship. Service-learning projects shall be incorporated in educational activities. * Executes required program evaluation components to provide data on the effectiveness of the program. Performance measurement tools include pre, mid and posttest evaluations, parent satisfaction surveys, Dynamic Indicators for basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) and observation. * Utilizes excellent verbal, listening and writing skills. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS: * Performs related work as required. * Becomes involved with the community in the promotion of related activities. Position Requirements/Qualifications MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE * Must be a certified teacher as identified by possessing a current or prior five-year Professional Teacher Certificate or a current Temporary Teacher Certificate. * Must comply with Level 2 background screening and fingerprinting requirements in accordance with Sections 943.0542, 984.01, Chapter 435, 402, 39.001, and 1012.465 Florida Statutes and Broward County background screening requirements, as applicable. (or) Ability to successfully pass background screening through Broward County Child Care Licensing and Enforcement Section, as required by Section 435, Florida Statutes, as applicable. * Must have good moral character based upon a Level 2 screening standards. * Must be able to successfully pass a Physician's statement of good health for childcare center personnel. The individual must be physically qualified to care for children, be free of all communicable diseases and free of any behavior that may be injurious to children. * Effective command of English language is required. * Must have a minimum of one (1) year of documented experience preparing and implementing elementary age curriculum in a school environment. * Knowledge of safety precautions and basic emergency first aid procedures. * Ability to instruct individual and groups of elementary age children. * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, parents and the general public. * Ability to maintain routine records, prepare reports and administer assessments. It is the responsibility of the candidate to maintain their licenses and/or certifications as a job requirement. Emergency Management Responsibilities Note: During emergency conditions, all City of Miramar employees are automatically considered emergency service workers. City of Miramar employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.
