Primarily responsible for managing and maintaining Pero Transport,
LLC’s fleet in good operating condition so the company can meet its
distribution objectives efficiently and cost-effectively. The
Assistant Fleet Manager will be responsible for all records,
maintenance, and equipment cost control. This position will be in
constant communication with the Fleet Manager to advise him/her of
equipment and personnel availability, and all fleet needs and
repairs. Also work in collaboration with the Compliance department
insuring the safe and effective management of Pero Transport’s
fleet of trucks. Requirements: PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Daily
coordination of equipment and personnel availability to provide
services (vehicle mechanical inspections, mechanical repairs,
driver communication). Assist in the administrative processing of
paperwork required in the acquisition or disposal of equipment
(i.e. title, registration, license, etc.) Plans, organizes and
directs equipment maintenance, repair, and disposal while
continually updating and maintaining all equipment maintenance
files. Reviews equipment maintenance invoices to ensure that proper
maintenance was performed. Transports equipment as required in the
acquisition and repair of vehicles. Oversees the vehicle emissions
program to comply with federal and state mandates. Maintain a
database of sales, registration, inspections, and maintenance of
the fleet. Monitor and ensure fleet operates in compliance with
local and state rules and regulations. Communicate and oversee
proper addition of new equipment into the data management system
TMT Software to ensure appropriate allocation of expenses to all
equipment. Provide direction and effectively communicate to the
Fleet Manager of fleet replacements, requirements and needs. Ensure
fleet is properly filled (i.e. each truck has a qualified driver).
Must be able to travel up to 8 weeks out of the year to other
Distribution Center locations. WORKING CONDITIONS Combination of
office, warehouse, and outdoor environments — work may take place
in administrative areas as well as in fleet maintenance shops,
loading docks, and production/packing facilities. Frequent
interaction with fleet vehicles, equipment, tools, and machinery;
may be exposed to moving parts and equipment during inspections or
coordination of repairs. Regular exposure to vehicle exhaust, oils,
greases, solvents, dust, fumes, odors, and noise; Personal
Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn as required. Must be
comfortable working in varied weather conditions (heat/cold/rain)
when supervising or responding to vehicle issues outdoors. Work may
involve interaction with drivers, vendors, maintenance personnel,
and internal teams; effective communication skills are essential.
May require occasional weekend, early morning, or extended shift
work to support fleet operations or respond to breakdowns. PHYSICAL
CONDITIONS Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, and climb
frequently throughout the day. Regular use of hands and arms for
handling documentation, tools, or equipment. May drive fleet
vehicles or service trucks occasionally. Must be able to reach,
kneel, twist, and frequently adjust body posture during inspections
or while overseeing maintenance activities. Ability to lift and
carry moderate loads (e.g., tools, parts, documentation) —
typically up to 25–50 lbs regularly, with occasional heavier items
(up to ~75 lbs) with assistance or safe practices. Should be
capable of performing physical tasks associated with vehicle
inspection, including climbing into vehicle cabs and reaching into
engine bays Good vision, hearing, and communication skills to
perform administrative and field work safely. Comfortable working
in potentially noisy or busy environments; use of PPE such as
safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection may be required.
Ability to participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and
hazard reporting. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Analytical skills and
problem-solving capabilities Working knowledge of Microsoft Word,
Excel, and PowerPoint Demonstrated ability to lead and manage
personnel Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability
to learn and understand transportation software systems and
technologies Expertise in transportation equipment and mechanics.
Knowledge of all DOT, state, and federal requirements, policies,
and procedures. 5 years of experience in heavy-diesel equipment and
safety certifications and training Participate in various workshops
and educational programs to maintain knowledge on all industry
