Job Description Job Description POSITION FUNCTION/OVERVIEW: This
position is responsible for providing services similar to those of
a physician - examine patients, take medical histories, maintain
patient records, identify health risk factors, prescribe
medications, make referrals and otherwise treat health conditions.
Depending on the setting, an ARNP provides psychotherapy and
medication evaluation and management to a range of patients having
mental illness, and substance abuse disorders under the supervision
of consulting psychiatrist(s). An ARNP provides evaluation,
treatment planning and discharge planning services for consumers in
substance abuse treatment centers or psychiatric facilities.
PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Promote the mission, values and
vision of organization. Provide excellent customer service for
patients and patients; practices confidentiality and privacy
protocols in accordance HIPAA requirements. Orders, interprets, and
signs all diagnostic and therapeutic tests. Provide education on
disease prevention, health promotion and management of current
conditions. Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and
non-pharmacologic treatment modalities Implements interventions to
support the patient to regain or maintain physiologic stability,
including but not limited to serving in the first assisting role.
Monitors the effectiveness of interventions. Facilitates the
patient’s transition within and between health care settings, e.g.
admitting, transferring, and discharging patients. Collaborates
with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate
referrals. Facilitates staff, patient and family decision making by
providing educational tools. Conducts therapy, medication
assessments, and crisis response to new and existing patients.
Develops individual service plans based upon assessment data, and
provides therapeutic interventions as necessary including the
provision of on-going medication management services. Provides
consultation and health education to staff, caregivers and patients
as it is relative to the treatment and medication needs of agency
consumers. Maintains documentation of services including service
plans, progress notes, medication informed consent, quarterly
treatment plan reviews, and other required information in
compliance with agency and third party compliance standards.
Receives medical supervision from psychiatric consultants
consistent with applicable Protocol for Provision of Family Nurse
Practitioner Services. Administer medication orally,
subcutaneously, and through an IV. Reads and responds to all forms
of communication pertaining to client care needs. Reviews
medication during initial and follow up visits, ensuring education
is completed. Performs other duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED: Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university
in Nursing with a focus on psychiatric nursing, preferred. Current
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Licensure; Current Nurse
Practitioner certification in specialty area; preferred. Current
CNOR/CRNFA (if applicable) certification Valid RN license –
Florida. Waiver to prescribe Buprenorphine, preferred. Minimum of
five (5) years clinical experience with chemical dependency,
addiction, psychiatric detox, medical/surgical nursing and/or dual
diagnosis substance programs OR two (2) years’ experience in the
Nurse Practitioner role. Extensive knowledge of: the etiology of
serious mental illness, developmental, and substance abuse
disorders and their treatment by a variety of appropriate
therapeutic interventions including psychopharmacology; nursing
practice and medical evaluation, physical diseases and their
treatment; community resources and networking techniques; and of
psychiatric and medical emergency stabilization. Strong
understanding of local, state and federal laws and guidelines.
Working knowledge of Joint Commission and AHCA standards;
preferred. Relevant computer software and hardware applications
proficiency – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Electronic Medical
Records, Billing Systems and/or other scheduling applications; KIPU
preferred. Able to respond calmly during an emergency. Current
provider card in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life
Support (ACLS); PALS provider card as required by department and
facility SKILLS: Synthesizes complex or diverse information;
collects and researches data; uses intuition and experience to
complement data; designs work flow and procedures. Identifies and
resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes
information skillfully; develops alternative solutions; works well
in group problem solving situations; uses reason even when dealing
with emotional topics. Manages difficult or emotional patient
situations; responds promptly to patient needs; solicits patient
feedback to improve service; responds to requests for service and

patients, staff and business needs. Ability to recognize signs and
symptoms of pain. Strong communication skills, both written and
verbal. Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability
to work with minimal supervision. Ability to handle highly
sensitive and confidential information; high level of
confidentiality. Excellent interpersonal and customer-facing
skills. The ability to work accurately, with attention to
detail.
