We are looking for passionate, driven individuals to join our team focused on Delivering Solutions and Improving Lives.Responsibilities:As the Senior Structural Engineer for the NV5 Forensic Department, located in Hollywood, Florida, your responsibilities will include guiding engineers, architects, and support staff and lead projects/cases involving structural or building envelope defects, as well as design and/or construction defects.
Much of the work involves high rise buildings and you will perform building inspections and gather information to evaluate alleged design or construction defects. Some inspections will involve ascending buildings using a manlift or on a swing stage. You will write expert reports and respond to other engineers' reports. You will participate in mediations, settlement agreements, arbitrations, and trials. You will write repair protocols for remediation of construction defects.
Occasionally you will prepare construction documents related to those defects or evaluate and respond to construction documents prepared by other engineers. There will be a transition period and training that will be provided by our Sr. Structural Engineer that will be relocating.Qualifications:Education

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related Bachelor's degree, e.g., a Bachelor's degree in architectural engineering
    • Master's degree or higher in structural engineering or a closely related technical engineering field (not a MBA or engineering management degree) preferred
    • Advanced courses in structural analysis, including finite element analysisSkills and Experience
      • Must have a minimum of 15 years' experience in the structural design and construction of buildings, building components and systems, etc.
        • Experience with RISA 3D or similar structural analysis and design software
        • Experience in post-tensioned concrete design and construction
        • Experience in high-rise design and construction
        • Experience in building envelope design or evaluations, investigations, and water intrusion investigations
          • Must be a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Florida with no disciplinary record
            • Additional certifications, e.g., S.E., S.I., or SECB, preferred
            • Professional Engineer licensure in additional states preferred
            • NCEES record preferred
              • Must have excellent technical writing skills
                • Experience in writing reports for use in litigation preferred
                • A record of published reports as the principal author
                • Must have excellent verbal / presentation skills
                  • Deposition / trial experience
                    • Must have an interest in forensic engineering
                    • Interest in providing technical guidance to other forensic engineers and technical staff, and mentoring engineers and technical staff
